The Reticulated Python is the largest of the true Pythons and is considered the longest snake in the world. They have sharp teeth that are curved towards the back of their mouth, and they capture their prey by biting. The snake holds its prey with its teeth until it can wrap its body around it and squeeze.
Reticulated Pythons hatch from eggs and a large female may lay over 100 eggs at a time. Female Pythons wrap their powerful bodies around their eggs until they hatch. This is called brooding and it prevents the eggs from getting too hot or cold. Pythons emerge from the egg shell by cutting a slit with their egg tooth. |
