Harris’s Hawks are medium-large birds of prey which breed from the southwestern USA south to Chile and central Argentina. They live in sparse woodland and semi-desert.
While most raptors are solitary, only coming together for breeding and migration, Harris’s Hawks will hunt in cooperative groups of 2 – 6. This is an adaptation to the desert climate in which they live. These birds have an easy going nature and since 1980 they have increasingly been used in falconry and are now the most popular hawks in the West (outside of Asia) for that purpose. They are the easiest to train and the most affectionate. - Taken from Wikipedia. |
