Addax are primarily grazers, feeding upon perennial grasses, but will browse on the tender young shoots of shrubs and trees. It is the most desert-adapted of the antelopes.
They move about the desert in herds of 5-20 animals and the herd is led by a dominant adult male. They are “short leg” runners and cannot achieve very high running speeds, which allows it to fall prey to faster predators. Both male and female calves are born with horns. The horn length of the adult animals is quoted at 55-80 cm for females and 60-109 cm for bucks. - Taken from Animal Diversity Web. |
